Manirang Abu Dhabi returns to the capital arena with another offering of fine Indian art. After classical Indian music, this time it will be a classical dance drama programme from Kerala - a Kathakali event. The event jointly organized with Shakti Theatres, Abu Dhabi, will be held at Kerala Social Centre from 22nd Oct 2013 to 25th October 2013(between 6 PM and 11PM each day) The Kathakali event titled “Naishadam(Nala Charithram in its entirety) features the legendary artist Padmashri Kalamandalam Gopi and his troupe of twenty two artists who are being specially flown in to UAE for the occasion. An orientation session explaining the sequence that lead to the show is expected to be held on 18th & 19th October at the same venue between 6pm and 8 pm and admission is free on all days.
Kathakali is a contemporary ancient dance/drama originating from Kerala from the 18th century and continues to be popular with the masses. Naishadham Attakatha is a highly dramatic and romantic story taken from the legendary Indian epic Mahabharata The event promises to be a golden opportunity for classical art lovers to enjoy this performance of the legendary Shri Gopi and revisit this epic which has been effectively reflected in the traditional kathakali dance format.
